Believe It Or Not!

Well, the Republican Convention is over and I hope I can now pick my jaw back up from the floor. Never in my wildest dreams have I imagined such a reckless disregard for the truth. Do they really believe no one is paying attention?

“Change is coming,” they said, and the crowd – that has controlled the Congress or White House or both for 26 of the last 28 years – roared it’s approval.

“Washington is broken,” they said. Well, if so, who broke it? Who’s been in charge down there for the last eight years and 20 of the last 28? Who, if not John McCain, was there most of that time and supporting George Bush 90% of the time?

Who was it that cut funding for veterans’ benefits until it became a national scandal?

Who was it that put an incompetent in charge of disaster relief so that nearly two thousand died and thousands more lost their homes in New Orleans?

Who was it that ignored reports of what Al Qaeda was up to until the Trade Towers were destroyed and thousands more were dead?

Who was in charge when Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and similar disregard for American values destroyed our reputation around the world?

Who was it that denied the existence of global warming and refused to invest in alternative energy making us more dependent than ever on foreign oil?

Who was it that sent our soldiers into Iraq without proper equipment or planning?

Send them to fix things? Send the bull back into the china shop to set things right?

No, if Washington is indeed broken and we need a change, a new face on the same old same old isn’t likely to be the answer.
