None of the Above!
I didn’t see much of the Great Youtube Debate featuring eight candidates for the Democratic Party nomination, but I saw one question asked and all eight candidates got it wrong. Asked
“If you’re elected to serve, would you be willing to do this service for the next four years and be paid the national minimum wage?” all eight said “Yes” – or equivalent. Hillary said, “Sure;” Richardson said, “Yes, I would;” Kucinich said, “I would.” The nearest to a refusal came from Senator Dodd who said, “ I have two young daughters who I’m trying to educate them. I don’t think I could live on the minimum wage.”
But what were the others thinking of? The correct and obvious answer is, “No; nor would I ask anyone else to do so.” What were they thinking? Trying to be humble, identify with the mythical “common man?” But to suggest that the President of the United States or anyone else could live on $6.55 an hour, about $13,000 a year before taxes is bananas. And we should chose one of the above for President?
Are there some other choices out there?
